On the anniversary of the advent of killer-wave that took 236 lives from Kerala, Oommen Chandy government has announced eight rehabitilation measures for the people in three coastal villages struck by the tragedy on December 26, 2004.
This includes a monthly pension for widows and marriage assistance for girls in Alappat, Arattupuzha and Edavanakkad villages.
"Kerala government has earmarked Rs 5 crore for the measures," Mr Chandy told reporters in a press conference. While Rs 500 pension per month would be given to tsunami widows for the next 10 years, the marriage assistance of Rs 15,000 for girls from tsunami-hit families would be given for the next one year.
The government would also give a monthly assistance of Rs 500 each for the physically and mentally handicapped persons in these families.
